FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
GENERAL QUESTIONS
Can I see the Pioneer in real life?
Yes. You’re very welcome to come and see the Pioneer by appointment. We’re happy to take the time to walk you through everything and answer your questions.
Where are Land Roamer cabins built?
Every Land Roamer is built entirely in the Netherlands, in our own workshop. Design, engineering and finishing all come together here, with short lines and full control over quality and details. That’s why all parts made for Land Roamer also come from the Netherlands.
What is a fixed camper cabin for a pick-up?
A fixed camper cabin is a permanently mounted living unit on a pick-up. Unlike demountable cabins, this cabin is firmly attached to the chassis and the heavy weight can be placed as low as possible. That gives better weight distribution, more stability and better handling for on- and off-road adventures.
What are the advantages of a fixed camper cabin over a demountable cabin?
A fixed camper cabin has lots of advantages over a demountable cabin, also called a slide-in camper. On the road, the camper has better stability, a lower weight and centre of gravity, and therefore better handling. On top of that, removing the original load bed gives you a lot more storage and living space without making the whole vehicle any bigger.
How are costs and payments structured?
Payments are split into clear stages, linked to the progress of the project. So you always know where you stand, right up to the delivery of the cabin.
Does the cabin meet the motorhome requirements?
Yes. The cabin is designed and built to the requirements that apply to motorhomes in the Netherlands. This means it meets the guidelines of both the RDW (Dutch vehicle authority) and the Dutch Tax Administration.
COMPATIBILITY & CHOOSING
Do you also supply the cabin for a Hilux?
Yes, our cabin is currently also available for the Toyota Hilux. For other models, just get in touch; there’s a good chance that’s possible too.
Do you also have a cabin for a double cab?
At the moment we don’t offer a cabin for the Hilux double cab. Because of our high standards for living and storage space, and our focus on the best possible weight distribution (with the heavier components placed in front of the rear axle for the best handling), it simply isn’t feasible on a double cab platform.
Of course, you’re very welcome to come by and see the cabin in real life. Once you see and experience the layout, it usually becomes clear why we made these design choices.
Do you also have a cabin for a single cab?
Yes, we can also supply the Land Roamer cabin for a single cab. An extra storage compartment does need to be made to fit between the camper cabin and the vehicle cab. Get in touch with us to discuss the options.
Can you help us work out what we want for the vehicle?
Yes. We can help you decide which modifications make sense for your trip, and install them with our team.
Can you help find a suitable vehicle for the camper cabin?
We’re happy to help you think about which vehicle best suits your wishes and our camper cabin. Things like payload, wheelbase and handling play an important role here. The final choice is still personal and depends on your travel style and preferences. Actively searching for and offering vehicles isn’t part of our services at the moment, because we focus fully on developing and building our camper cabins.
DELIVERY & FITTING
Do you also deliver the cabin internationally?
Yes, delivery is possible worldwide. Regulations and import requirements differ per country. We recommend checking these carefully in advance, so registration goes smoothly.
Do you fit the cabin when I buy it?
Yes, if you can bring the vehicle to us, we fit the cabin and make sure everything is connected properly.
Can you also ship the cabin?
Yes, if you can’t bring the vehicle to us, we can prepare the cabin for transport and load it into a shipping container. Loading is included in the price. For more details on transport options, we’re happy to talk through your specific wishes in person.
Is the pick-up modified to fit the cabin?
The Land Roamer cabin is fitted to a pick-up without fixed or permanent modifications to the vehicle. Technically the pick-up stays standard, apart from any 4×4 upgrades you choose yourself. That means the vehicle can be serviced at regular garages all over the world.
Some options may need extra connections when fitting.
Can the cabin be swapped between different vehicle models?
No, the cabin is custom-made for each specific vehicle model. The type of vehicle has to be chosen before the cabin is built, because the cabin can’t be swapped between different models.
How does the build process work?
The build process is easy to follow and made up of clear steps:
· Choosing the pick-up, where we’re happy to help if you like
· Agreeing on the layout, options, wishes and colours, with an interior stylist if you like
· Start of the build
· Production and fitting of the cabin
How is the electrical system set up?
For the electrical system we work with Independent Energy, an experienced partner in off-grid solutions. The Pioneer is built with Victron Energy components, which are available worldwide and suited to long-term travel. Faults can be read remotely via the Victron Cerbo, so we can quickly help out or support you when needed.
TRAVEL & OFF-ROAD
Can a fixed camper cabin handle the same tough 4×4 routes as an expedition pick-up with a roof tent?
Yes, our fixed camper cabin is designed specifically to handle the same rough 4×4 tracks as an expedition pick-up with a roof tent. Thanks to the integrated construction, the low centre of gravity and the optimal weight distribution, the pick-up keeps its off-road abilities without giving up driving comfort and stability. Where traditional expedition vehicles often compromise on living space and protection from extreme weather, our cabin gives you the best of both worlds: real off-road performance combined with the comfort and insulation of a high-end camper.
Is a pick-up with a fixed cabin also worth it if you don’t drive off-road?
Absolutely! When developing the cabin, we focused on liveability, luxury and handling. If you drive a standard pick-up with a fixed Land Roamer cabin, you won’t feel like you’re driving a camper and you can easily keep up with traffic. And at the same time, you can enjoy your surroundings without a worry.
What if something on the cabin breaks during a trip abroad?
The Pioneer is built with components that are available worldwide. Because the pick-up stays technically standard, maintenance or repairs can in principle be done at regular garages. With electrical faults, we can often take a look remotely via the Victron system.
How was the Pioneer tested for reliability?
The production model was tested hard for thirteen months in South America. It handled temperatures from 40°C to −10°C and was driven from sea level up to 5,100 metres. Conditions like beaches, salt, desert, river crossings and long washboard roads were tested thoroughly too. So we know the Pioneer is practical, reliable and suited to all kinds of travel conditions.
WARRANTY & SERVICE
How are warranty and service arranged, also in the long run?
Manufacturer warranties on purchased parts stay valid under the terms of the suppliers concerned, even if Land Roamer were no longer around in the future. Technical documentation stays available, and service can be done through partners or regular specialists if needed.
What about purchased parts?
All parts used meet European standards and are CE-certified. We deliberately chose reliable brands with a long lifespan and good availability, so service and replacement stay realistic in the long run too.
What if Land Roamer no longer exists in a few years?
Land Roamer isn’t a short-lived project. Almost five years of development, testing and travelling went into the Pioneer. On top of that, the cabin is built with parts from proven suppliers. So maintenance, service and replacement parts stay possible in the long run too, and don’t depend only on Land Roamer itself.
