A separate cabin; the advantages
Did you know that integrating a cabin and a vehicle isn’t as fantastic as you might initially think? We’ve listed some of the benefits of a separate cabin for you.
- Clear separation between driving and living areas.
After a long day of driving, you step out of the vehicle and come home to a warm, cozy, and comfortable living space, without the sight of a dashboard. Believe us, once you experience this, you won’t want anything else. - Quiet rides
The rattling sound of cutlery, pots, and pans in the cupboards? With a separate cabin, you won’t hear this anymore. This provides a lot of comfort on the endless washboard roads you might encounter during your journey. - Car breakdown
All vehicles can break down or sometimes have significant trouble, leading to delays or high costs. If your cabin is integrated, your cabin is also written off immediately, and you’re stuck with renovating the vehicle. A separate cabin is easily transferable to a new vehicle, allowing you to continue your journey quickly. Additionally, the cabin is often the most expensive part of an expedition vehicle, and a separate cabin might make it lasts longer than the vehicle itself.

Potential disadvantage; missing the pass-through?
Crawling from the vehicle to the cabin and vice-versa sounds very convenient. Think of days when it’s pouring rain or extremely cold. However, a pass-through is less comfortable than you might expect.
- Acrobatics
Crawling from front to back is fine in a bus where you have some walking space between the seats and no center console. In a pickup truck, it’s more difficult. You have to climb over the center console, and then over the back seat. It’s not impossible, but we challenge you to try this in your current car and then let us know if you’d do it daily. - Visual check around the vehicle
Before you depart, it’s advisable to walk around your vehicle. This way, you can see if you’ve forgotten anything and get an overview of your surroundings, like low-hanging branches or poles you can’t see in your mirror. Additionally, it’s crucial for safety. We’ve been to places where we were warned that people might place nails or sharp objects under your tires, causing a flat tire as you drive away. Thieves then wait to take you to a tire shop and overcharge you, or you might even be robbed while changing your tire. For us, this is a reason to always, regardless of the weather, walk around the vehicle before driving off. - Emergencies
The only legitimate reason for a pass-through from the cabin to the vehicle in a pickup truck is in an emergency. This is something we consider important, which is why you can opt for a pass-through from the cabin to the vehicle. This way, in an emergency, you can get into the vehicle from inside to make a quick getaway.
Do you have questions about the experiences with a separate cabin or are you not yet convinced why a separate cabin offers more comfort? Feel free to contact us, and we’d be happy to explain it to you personally.
